Simple Woman's Daybook: November 16, 2009


Outside My Window ... it's a dark and dreary day...cold, wet, and windy.

I am thinking ...about the work I need to do this week.

I am thankful ... for the home we live in...it's not perfect, but it provides shelter from the cold weather and it seems that we are seeing more and more people losing their homes in this recession.

From the kitchen ... I will be making turkey cutlets a la Jean -- my own special recipe...my dh loves it and so do I!

I am wearing ...a pink nightgown.

I am creating ...a less cluttered and more organized home, which seems to be an ongoing challenge here.

I am going ...to work in a more determined manner on the Light Weigh Program this time and pray for the grace to do better this time. I would be content with losing 30 lbs -- so I have about 21 lbs. to go.

I  am reading... my Bible and devotionals now. I have finished reading Bleeder -- waiting for the review to be published.
 
I am hoping ... that I get a check in the mail soon. The budget is very tight right now.

I am hearing ... the hum of my computer -- it's very quiet here now.

Around the house ... it's clean for the most part... I vacuumed over the weekend...hoping to get the carpet cleaned over Thanksgiving weekend.

One of my favorite things ... is preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I look forward to the holidays and would like to do something different this year to help those who are less fortunate than we are.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week ... daily Mass, chiropractor appointment today, RCIA on Wednesday, and writing projects with deadlines to do.

    Thanks for this post. I was poking around my favorite blogs hoping for some inspiration...slowly, I might add because our router is not working properly and I am using a some random unsecured wireless which is iffy and s l o w.
    I leave our router unsecured in the hopes that I can help others out (when ours is working, that is).

    Anyhow, things are ...weird here. Money is beyond ridiculously tight. It is just a day to fight dragons and I feel woefully unprepared.
    I almost didn't read the daybook entry because I had presumed it would be all light and sunshine (as many are)

    I don't feel so alone, thanks to this post. I was also reminded to focus on the good -- the roof over our heads (despite the many repairs and bills and worries).
    And, you reminded me of the fact that there are SO many that are less fortunate. One of my bigger, burning questions SHOULD be, "How can I help others?"

    I have rambled too long. What I am trying to tell you is, "Thank you."

Saint Michael de Sanctis: Patron of Cancer Patients

Today is the feast of Saint Michael de Sanctis, also known as St. Michael of the Saints, a Spanish Discalced Trinitarian priest, the patron of cancer patients. Michael Argemir was born on September 29, 1591 at Vic, Catalonia, Spain. At age 6, he told his parents that he planned to become a monk and began modeling his life after Saint Francis of Assisi. Michael’s parents died when he was about ten years old. He then served as an apprentice with a local merchant. During this apprenticeship, he continued his fervent devotion to the Lord, especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At the age of 12, he joined the Trinitarian Friars at Barcelona, taking his vows at St. Lambert’s monastery in Saragosa four years later.  Shortly afterwards, Michael expressed a desire to join the reformed group of Trinitarians and was given permission to do so. St. Raymond Nonnatus, Patron of Expectant Mothers, Midwives, and Newborn Babies

The saint of the day for August 31 is St. Raymond Nonnatus. He is the patron of expectant mothers, midwives, obstetricians, infertile couples, and newborn babies. Raymond was born at Portella, Catalonia, Spain in 1204, the son of wealthy parents. He was delivered by cesarean section when his mother died in childbirth. Hence his name non natus (not born). In his childhood, he seemed to find pleasure only in his devotions and serious duties. His father, sensing that Raymond was drawn to religious life, ordered him to manage one of the family farms. Raymond readily obeyed but spent his time with the shepherds and workers, studying and praying until his father abandoned the idea of making his son a worldly success. Raymond later joined the the Order of Our Lady of Mercy or the Mercederians, which was founded by St. Peter Nolasco, who devoted to ransoming Christians captured by the Moors.
