Election Countdown: Ten Ways to Prepare Ourselves for the Final Battle in this Spiritual War

By Jean M. Heimann

We’re in the process of counting down the hours for this upcoming election. Most of us have been praying and fasting for some time now. We have also been working hard to spread the truth about both Obama and McCain and their positions, particularly on pro-life issues. While Obama is an extremist in the area of pro-life, strongly opposing every human life issue, McCain is pro-life on all of the issues, but one. Biden is also 100% pro-death, while Sarah Palin is 100% pro-life.

What can we do in these final days to promote pro-life candidates in the November 4 elections?

1. Continue to pray and fast until the elections are over.

2. Take the day off on Election Day. Volunteer to help in a campaign for pro-life campaign making last minute phone calls or driving others to the polling places.

3. Remind others to vote.

4. Spend as much time as you are able to in Eucharistic Adoration on Election Day, without neglecting the duties of your vocation. Prior to voting, go to Confession, Mass, and Holy Communion.

5. Vote early.

6. Bring a small bottle of holy water with you to the election booth and use it.

7. Bring your pro-life voting list with you to the polls.

8. Take your time voting to make sure you have elected the candidates you want to win.

9. Double-check your ballot before finalizing your vote.

10. Thank God for using you to do His work.

Scripture Passages to Keep in Mind at This Time:

"Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground. So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit."

~ Ephesians 6:11-18

"I can do all things in Him who strengthens me."

~ Philippians 4:13

For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope.
When you call me, when you go to pray to me, I will listen to you.
When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart,
you will find me with you, says the LORD, and I will change your lot; I will gather you together from all the nations and all the places to which I have banished you, says the LORD, and bring you back to the place from which I have exiled you.

~ Jeremiah 29: 11 - 15

  1. Catholics have a serious problem. Their "social justice" instincts (very good) have been manipulated by Catholic liberals and some heterodox priests and bishops into extremely wide Catholic support for government programs to rectify every which problem. No real evangelism or conversion which changes hearts...just the politics of the poor.

We would not be where we are today with abortion (a very bad thing) were it not for the misguided conflation of "social justice" and "politics" so eagerly supported by significant portions of the hierarchy.

Republicanism isn't Catholicism or even Christianity but it is the only steerable vehicle left in the family.

  2. I am so proud and grateful to our bishops for speaking out so boldly in favor of life and so strongly against Obama -- who supports death via FOCA, BAIPA,etc. A vote for McCain / Palin is a vote for LIFE!

McCain isn't perfect but he comes close. Obama is 100% abortion and infanticide.

    BTW, excellent ideas here! Thanks!

  3. Thanks, Bill! I, too, anm very proud of our Bishops for being true Shepherds in this spiritual battle. We have already had 110+ Bishops speaking out in favor of life and opposing Barack Obama for his extreme views on abortion.

Aloyisus, I am not entirely clear what you are saying.

I do know, however, the Democratic party platform is that of death -- which has been written into their policies (homosexuality, abortion). There is no Catholic political party but the Republican party comes closest to supporting Catholic values.
